<p>Inkscape is one of the specialties in Techlit Africa. This is where artists practice their talents using various shapes, spirals and different colors to draw and sketch all kinds of shapes.</p><p>Victor Lokaman, a grade 6B kid since vectors class was introduced to them, he was so cooperative and ready to learn new ideas. Artist being his dream career, he was lucky enough to practice using inkscape techniques.</p><p>During holiday break he used an A6 exercise book to draw very attractive pictures, having a plan to transfer it to practical during his inkscape lesson.</p><p>I was so impressed to see his progress and passion. I believe next time he will do marvelous and colorful&nbsp;designs.</p>

<h2>Becoming A Producer</h2><p>Video production is one of our&nbsp;specialties in Techlit Africa. You may think that you have to be 18 years or older to become a video producer. That's not true for Barrina school.</p><h2>Inspiring Self-Discovery</h2><p>Meshack, a fourth grader at Barina quickly changed his career to a producer when Allan introduced video production to his class. He was particularly motivated when Allan explained that they too can make cool music videos like the one they see of Dogo and even Diamond, a very famous talent artist from Tanzania. </p><h2>Self-Efficacy Mastery Experiences</h2><p>This nine year old Meshack impressed all his classmates after he cut all the videos and stitched them together to make one amazing video. </p>

<h2>Unleashing Creativity</h2><p>There's better time of experiment within art than primary school kids! Kids at this age are buzzing with creativity and willing to learn new things.</p><p>Inkscape is one of specialty at Techlit Africa, lead by Irene Sheey. To teach inkscape <em>(vectors)</em> we use 3D shapes, 2D shapes, spirals and other tools to create colourful designs.</p><h2>Determined To Improve</h2><p>Brian Mulalem, a grade 5 blue kid at Barrina school, emerged as the most interested kid in Inkscape lessons. Though it was his first time to be vectors class, he really worked hard because he had passion towards the lesson.</p><h2>Planning And Practice</h2><p>During his second lesson he drew a very colorful bus and he was like "<strong style="font-size: 1rem;">teacher, next lesson I want to draw family members, but with a beautiful background.</strong>"</p><p>Brian motivated me as a school lead because of how he plans his next task. Even now, I'm still waiting to see his progress next lesson.</p>

<h2>Specialty Classes</h2><p>In TechLit computer classes we have many different specialties designed to help students discover their unique interests and use them to develop digital skills through project-based learning. Two of the specialties that we have are Graphic Design and Coding.</p><h2>Finding Unique Interests</h2><p>Peter is a Grade 6, Group B student at Barrina primary school. Since we introduced him to Inkscape, our vector graphics editor, in Graphic Design class, he emerged as a talented artist. During one of his Graphic Design lessons, he drew a very colorful lorry. And then all of the next school term, he insisted that I show him block coding so that he could animate his colorful lorry.</p><h2>Project-Based Learning</h2><p>I decided to call him during break time to teach him the basics of block coding. I am so impressed and motivated as a tutor to get such a young person's needs and to be able to teach them new things every day.</p>

TechLit classes in Barina serve over 600 students.</p><h2>Barina's ICT Teacher Nick</h2><blockquote>Nick was teaching computer classes even before TechLit started.</blockquote><p>Barina was the first school to have TechLit classes in Nakuru county, all thanks to their ICT teacher, Nick.</p><p>Nick was already teaching computer classes in Barina Primary School before TechLit started. He downloaded educational videos from youtube to share with his class on a projector. This is quite rare in rural Kenyan schools.</p><blockquote>Nick convinced his school to invited TechLit for a presentation.</blockquote><p>Our CEO Nelly happened to be visiting another school the same day as Nick. After hearing about the program TechLit was offering, Nick rushed back to Barina and convinced the headteacher there that Barina should bring TechLit to their school immediately. The next day, Barina's headteacher invited Nelly to meet the school board, the teachers and Barina students.</p><p>Now with TechLit in the school, Nick always has feature requests for our server, and he actively markets TechLit classes to many other schools in the area.</p><h2>Barina's Favorite Subject: Graphic Design</h2><blockquote>Kids in Barina prepare their artwork before class.</blockquote><p>Barina students love to draw with Inkscape. Initially, we only introduce students to Inkscape as a way to draw shapes and add fonts, but the Barina students caught on quick. They were the first school to sketch drawings at home on paper first, then transfer their drawings to the computer when they're in TechLit class.</p>

<p>Barina was the first school in Nakuru county with TechLit classes. Kids in Barina love to sketch and digitize their art.</p>
