<p>Word document specialty focuses on introducing students to common text formatting options available in word processing apps.</p><p>Joy, a fourth grader in Mogotio primary came in with her project written on a piece of paper. The project was a designed birthday invitation card which she had drawn during their previous class.</p><p>After introducing word documents, she went ahead to do her project. She typed the invitation letter and wrote the subject in bold. Then she used a watermark: ‘birthday.’ She then decorated it and saved her work.</p><p>Everyone in the class was amazed and they were going to joy to consult.she took over the class to teach word document.</p>

First Digital Letter in Mogotio Primary

<p>Today, Dreams Hill teacher came to the lab and asked us to teach his students how to type a paragraph on the computer and save.</p><p>I showed them using the office application (writer libreoffice document).</p><p>Joy, a fifth grader, was able to type the paragraph and edit it on her own.</p><p>She coloured the words with different colours ,bolded some words,italicised&nbsp;and saved.</p><p>She ended up being a student teacher&nbsp;since everyone was calling her for help.</p>

<h2>Internet Skills Specialty</h2><p>Internet skills is one of the specialties we teach in TechLit Africa. Creating accounts in our local, offline internet program called Social enables students to save and upload their work so that they can always make progress when attending computer class.</p><h2>The Effects of Social</h2><p>Since I started introducing Social accounts in Mogotio Primary and showing them how to open the account they have been showing less interest in it. But from the day I started reviewing Social with them and showing them how they can communicate to their colleagues by chatting they have really developed interest in it. Most of them really enjoy that. Now they are able to save their work and upload it on Social.</p>

<h2>Learning Internet Skills</h2><p>Internet skills is one of the specialties we teach in TechLit Africa. Social accounts being one of the skills whereby I create accounts for the students using their names as usernames and passwords. They are able to save and upload their work.</p><h2>Sharing With Friends</h2><p>Having taught grade five north in the morning on how to open their&nbsp;accounts and the importance of remembering their passwords, Lameck, a fifth grader, then showed his classmate Luck on how to open his account since he had missed the first lesson.</p>

<h2>Digital Literacy Required</h2><p>Last week, a fourth grader named Fortune in Mogotio Primary school, was struggling to open his Social account because he did not know how to spell his name. I wrote his name down on a piece of paper and placed it on his desk so that he could refer to it while typing. I returned to Mogotio this week to review their Internet Skills introduction. Fortune has really improved.</p><h2>Breakthrough Skills</h2><p>Now, Fortune he can even log into his account on his own. Today, he really amazed me as he drew six different designs on Inkscape vectors and saved all of them successfully during their lessons. Teaching them how to save their work has been a hard task, especially for Grade 4, but Fortune has really motivated the students.</p>

<p>Fortune, a student at Mogotio Primary has overcome literacy challenges and is motivating his entire class now. While most students struggle to save their work into their local, offline internet account, Fortune is saving many Inkscape designs every class.</p>

<p>Esther Wangui, a Grade 3 West student in&nbsp;Mogotio Primary drew a beautiful Christmas tree using various shapes and painted it using different colours in Inkscape.</p><p>She drew a triangle and painted it green, she placed a star on top of the triangle and painted it yellow then used circles of different colours as a decoration.</p><p>She asked for assistance in typing the words in capital letters and I showed her an example. She then wrote her name and the words "Christmas Tree" by herself.</p>
